Linux installation overview
From download to first invoice.
Check your environment before purchasing. This release is verified on Linux Mint 22.3 x86-64, glibc 2.39 and Chromium 151.
Requires a graphical desktop and modern Chromium-based browser. ARM, older distributions/glibc and Firefox are unverified. Windows and macOS are unsupported. The package is unsigned.
Start the portable app
- Download the ZIP from your Gumroad receipt and extract the entire folder into a writable local directory. Do not move the executable away from its
_internalfolder. - Open a terminal in the extracted folder. Run
./start.sh. If the extraction tool removed permissions, runchmod +x start.sh folio-localfirst. - Keep the terminal open. The launcher opens Folio in your browser. If it does not, use the loopback URL printed in the terminal.
- Open Settings & backups. Save your business details and create a fictitious customer before entering real records.
- Download a backup. Try a restore in a separate test workspace, following the included manual.
Python installation and API keys are not required. The executable includes its runtime. Optional per-user install and uninstall scripts are included; uninstall preserves your records.
Where your records live
The default database is ~/.local/share/folio-local/folio.sqlite3. It is not encrypted by Folio. Store backups on another drive; do not run the active database from a synchronized or shared folder.
Closing and reopening
Closing the browser tab does not stop the application. Press Ctrl+C in its terminal when finished. Run the launcher again to reopen the same workspace.
